A Laminate Floorings top layer is a Laminate covering, hence the name Laminate flooring. The laminate covering is applied to a plywood or a medium density fibreboard (MDF) core to create a floor covering that resembles hardwood. A high-density fibreboard called HDF is covered with one or more layers of decorative paper and a transparent protective layer to create HDF laminate. Laminate cannot be refinished like hardwood, although possibly being more durable than that material. There are numerous patterns of laminate flooring that can imitate various types of wood or even ceramic tile. Typically, it taps or locks. For laminate flooring to provide moisture and noise control, underlayment is necessary.
